TraceMetrics was developed as an accessible Java-based trace file analyzer for ns-3 (Network Simulator 3).
The main goal is to perform a quick analysis of the trace file produced by ns-3’s simulations and calculate useful metrics for research and performance measurement.

TraceMetrics [Win/Mac]

of simulation, mean latency, number of IPv4/IPv6 packets, propagation delay

– Supports various interface implementations: igmp, ipv4, ipv6, tcp
with MSS, maxSegmentsPerPacket, TCP-MTU, TCP congestion avoidance
– Supports single simulation or multiple simulation
– Allows to import results of a simulation to calculate metrics
– Allows to export results of a simulation to calculate metrics
– Generates a small report for each simulation
Bugs:
– Single simulation are stored in a temporary folder
– Incompatibility with some Linux distributions
Installation:
– Install Java Runtime Environment (JRE) version of 5.0 or higher
– Download and unpack tar.gz
– Run install_tracetmetrics.sh
Usage:
It was designed to be used by end users and it has a simple and intuitive graphical user interface.
The overall idea is to use a web-based approach and to display the metrics in a couple of charts.
Installation and starting is very simple.
One can choose to run the installation script or to use the quick start.
The following screenshots show how the simple interface looks like:

There are few options available in the interface, like either to select a simulation or to export the results.
Click on any of them to get some useful information.

The next screenshot shows a similair interface, when a single simulation is selected.
Here as well, one can chose to either export the results or to calculate some metrics.
If none of the previous options are selected, the interface displays the metrics already available in the plug-in.

To see more metrics, click on the plus icon next to the respective field and in the drop down menu select the metric to be added.
A button “Update” will be available to update the graph.
In order to export the results of a simulation, the user should click on the export button.

There are three types of data in the trace file: Packets: data related to each packet of the simulation.
MacAddress: the name of the interface used for each packet.
Time: the sending or the receiving time of each packet (in ns).
