The pumpkinetic energy is calculated using a formula developed by the ACCP. The kinetic energy of the pump, based on its displacement and speed is related to its efficiency level. The efficiency level is based on the type of pump considered and the speed at which the pump operates. A table of these efficiency levels and the corresponding pumpkinetic energy is provided.
Sizing of the pumping system is done by sizing the cylinders, the pump (which is a variable depending on the output torque level) and the motor (which can be computed to determine the pumpkinetic energy consumption).
The first version of Pumpcalc was created in 1996. The design uses a dummy preloader and calliper, all hydraulic components are installed and pressurised. The dynamic loading of the pump is done using hydraulic cylinders, an electric drive, motor speed control and a torque control, the whole system is pressurised to a maximum hydraulic pressure.
