The Drawing Data Management System (DDMS) was introduced in AutoCAD 2009 and its ability to manage files in a drawing database simplifies the ability to compare, merge, and synchronize parts. DDMS adds support for UUIDs and can be configured to automatically link parts to each other through records of parent/child relationships. It can also store searchable properties associated with a part. A drawing data management system is designed to be a central repository for all of a drawing’s elements, such as views, layers, blocks, and drawings. DDMS has been enhanced with DXF 2.0 and AutoCAD Architecture and Electrical 3D. DDMS replaces the Drawing Manager application.
In 2017, Autodesk announced the release of DXF API 2.0, which enables applications to use a number of capabilities in AutoCAD. DXF is the DIN drawing exchange format. The DXF API enables developers to store, search, and retrieve large drawings, as well as export, translate, load, save, and import drawings to new formats.
